poultry meat Experts of Russian Poultry Union (Rosptitsesoyuz) forecast a significant growth in poultry meat production in Russia in 2018. According to their estimates, the production of poultry meat in slaughter weight may amount to more than 4.9 million tons. In this case, poultry meat will account for 47% of all meat produced in the country. As a result, it is expected that exports can significantly increase – up to 210 thousand tons, which is 40% more than last year’s figures.

Deputy Director General of the Russian Poultry Union Elena Stepanova explains that the increase in exports of poultry meat – it is a necessity that arises from the possible saturation of the domestic market due to limited demand. So, it is assumed that the possible increase in consumption of poultry meat in the coming year will not exceed 0.2 kg per person per year.

At the same time, experts note that for the successful development of exports of domestic poultry products, in the face of severe competition in the foreign market, government support will be required. In this regard, the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia together with Rosptitsesiyuz has prepared a program for the development of exports of poultry products, which provides for an increase in sales to 350 thousand tons by 2020.
