greenhouse complexesDeficiency of vegetables in the Russian market may be closed by 90 percent in 2-3 years, provided that the production of greenhouse vegetables in the country will grow at the same rate as today. Such a statement was made by the Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation Alexander Tkachev at the forum “Greenhouse Complexes of Russia”.

“We have never dreamed about it, because we imported about 2 million every year 5-10 years ago, – said the head of the Ministry of Agriculture in an interview with the TV channel “Russia 24″. - A whole industry is being created, factories for the production of vegetables – cucumbers, tomatoes, salads, etc. This is a completely technological production of an intensive type. “

To date, the deficit of greenhouse vegetables in Russia is estimated at 1 million tons.

“I am sure that in the near future we will buy very few for imports, and only in the off-season,” Tkachev said.

According to the head of the agrarian department, this year the production of greenhouse vegetables in the country increased by 14 percent compared to last year and reached 700,000 tons, including cucumber growth of 15 percent, tomato 25 percent.

The minister also said that this year domestic agrarians received preferential loans worth 120 billion rubles and started construction of about 50 greenhouse complexes with a total length of 650 hectares. It is expected that their launch will increase the output of vegetables by one and a half times.

In the long term, Alexander Tkachev expects to make a breakthrough in the export of protected ground products.

“Russian vegetables have already started to enter the foreign market, and I hope that this will become our strong export position”, – said the head of the Ministry of Agriculture, specifying that last year the export of vegetables increased 1.4 times and amounted to 140 thousand tons.
