MeatSaudi Arabia has lifted restrictions on the import of meat and eggs from Russia. This follows from a statement published on the eve on the website of the General Directorate for Food and Drug Administration of the country.

This is about the supply of Russian beef, lamb, goat, chicken, meat products and eggs. The decision to abolish the current ban was taken after the Arab state studied the measures taken by the Russian side to combat foot-and-mouth disease and avian influenza, as well as measures to register and control meat products made from meat of beeves and small cattle, and from poultry meat.

According to the press secretary of the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor) Yulia Melano, the export of meat and eggs to Saudi Arabia will begin after the agency clarifies the technical aspects and terms of supply.

The inspections of Russian enterprises by Saudi inspectors took place in the middle of May this year. The experts visited enterprises of the Moscow, Bryansk, Kaliningrad and Penza regions, as well as the Stavropol Territory to familiarize themselves with the Russian veterinary control system for ensuring the safety of livestock products.

At the end of the last year, the head of the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia, Alexander Tkachev, said that the supply of Russian meat to Asian countries could begin in 2017. Then he listed such countries as China, Indonesia, Iran, Singapore, Japan and Saudi Arabia. By the way, at the end of last week it became known that China began the process of lifting restrictions on the import of meat products from Russia.
