tomatoesDeliveries of tomatoes from Turkey to Russia may resume in a small amount this winter. This statement was made by the Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation Alexander Tkachev in an interview with the TV channel Rossia 24.

According to the head of the agrarian department, imports of tomatoes are necessary to ensure domestic consumption in the off-season. We are talking about the period from winter to early spring, when domestic farmers can not supply enough vegetables to the market due to weather conditions.

“This season, I think that we can give a certain lot to our colleagues, Turkish partners, the opportunity to return in small quantities to the Russian market,” Tkachev said.

The head of the Ministry of Agriculture considers such a version of the development of events around Turkish tomatoes fair, since Russia and Turkey have already settled all issues of a political nature.

The timing of the resumption of the import of Turkish tomatoes and volumes will be discussed as early as this month, Tkachev said.

Earlier Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision (Rosselkhoznadzor) has allowed 9 Turkish enterprises to deliver salad lettuce, iceberg salad, pepper and zucchini to the territory of the Russian Federation. The decision came into force on 1 September.
